dial up / wi fi / new lap top please can someone help me?
5 Answers
Can anyone help me I currently have a broken computer and dial up at home. So I want to get myself a lap top and broadband. But I know nothing about these things and I am being told by someone that I should have Wi fi as all lap tops are wi fi. What worries me is how safe is wi fi, especially for online banking? How do I go about getting it all its really getting me worried as I don't know where to start. Do I get a lap top first and then broadband or wi fi and how do I know who to go with. I am with BT at the moment on dial up. Sorry if I sound very ignorant it's very beyond me all this stuff.

Buy a wifi enabled laptop and a wireless router that allows connection by ethernet. That way you have the choice - wireless for general surfing, and hardwired for your internet banking, if it puts your mind at rest.

There may be free routers included, so don't buy one until you know what you need.

Good answer Ethel.
BT are doing a good offer at the moment with free wireless routers included.
A wireless enabled laptop / computer will enable you to have your computer anywhere in the house without the need for cabling.
Regarding security, it is important to have your wireless network configured so that only you can use it.
When you get the equipment, any local PC specialist should be able to set it up for you and answer any questions you have.
I'm not sure where you are based but my company does this for a very low rate (Apologies if this kind of ad is not allowed). You can view my page at www.kssit.co.uk
