lexmark scanning problem

i have a lexmark x2480 (one of those printer, copier and scanner things) and i can't get the scanner to work, i don't have the 'all-in-one centre' that is supposed to start up when i press the scan button on the actual machine (and all the troubleshoot things talk about that... and it should be under the lexmark thing on my start menu) and i've un-installed and re-installed it with the cd that comes with it, so it should have all the necessary software, and i know that the connection is ok becuase it prints fine, i've tried getting scanned images from another programme which doesn't work, just says check the software is instaled and connections working... its driving me insane any help would be very happily recieved as im completely sh.. rubbish with computers!!
