System Restore not working seems to be a problem for many people. Mine hasn't worked for ages (months) and there are many references on the Internet. I have Windows XP professional and the original CD used to install it, but didn't do the job myself. I'm wondering what would happen if I put the CD in the disc drive and let it run, but am afraid of messing thing up. Can anyone help please and is there any other way of dealing with the System Restore problem? Thanks.
If you have Norton or some other similar system it sometimes blocks system restore.
You should be able to restore your computer to its Factory Settings but you will have to back up all of your files and everything else. I do this regularly to clean out unnecessary rubbish that computers collect from time to time.
Thank you CSG and Ethel. I do have Norton and have tried running System Restore with Norton disabled but it still wouldn't complete the job. Backing up all of my files and everything else sounds a bit scary to me - I'm not that confident! I have a lot of free disc space - about 60GB. I'm wondering if there might be software I could run to deal with System Restore. Haven't heard of any but one can always live in hope.
