Erasing Private Files from your Hard Disc prior to selling your computer

I have been told that Removing private files /Information etc
from your Computer can be done with a Digital Shredder.
Has anybody used this System and if so which one ,And is it Guaranteed to work. Or do I have to make sure and Remove the Hard Drive and Destroy it . Any help on this one will be very much appreciated. Alligator

It depends what sort of data you have on your system. Assuming you're on windows, Eraser is about the best there is (it has a good algorithm for the shredding):
