Opening links in a new window

Internet Explorer links recently stopped opening in a new window when I want them to. I don't have any pop-up prevention software and I don't think any settings have changed; all I know is that whenever a new browser window opens, the old one closes. This is quite annoying as I usually have around ten Internet Explorers open at any given moment. Is there a way of fixing this? (So far the only window that will actually open is the Answerbank 'Post an answer' box.)
