Fumes from Gas cooker
2 Answers
I wonder if anyone can help please? When I turn my gas cooker on I get a smell like a paraffin heater. The cooker is old (over 40 years I think). One thing I would mention is that there is a lot of painting going on downstairs. Could it be the fumes from the paint mixing with my gas or do I need a new gas cooker? many thanks. Patti

I am going through the same problem now. I gas cooker is new [about 1.5 years old] and has now started smelling of paraffin - About 3 days before this happened my neighbours injected a damp proof course into the party wall. Is it a coincidence? I keep my oven fairly clean. I have spoken to DPC engineers and Corgi engineers. The general consensous is that it should not be the DPC, the the odour is very weird and they have not come across this problem before. After reading your question, I wondered if you found a solution to your problem. I have a small baby and the odour permeates through the house and makes our eyes water. Thanks very much. Could it be the gas supply? But it only seems to come from the oven, not the hob.
