I have a TV with in-built digital (sharp) and a recordable DVD player (sony) - I have connected them according to the set-up instructions, but do not seem to be able to watch/record digital quality pictures via the DVD player - any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Really grateful for any advice

I assume that both devices have 2 scart sockets, one being input only and the other being input/output. The scart lead needs to be connected between the two input/output scart sockets.

Whenever you wish to record to your DVD recorder, you need to select the input source as SCART.

The sequence of wiring, therefore, should be:-

Aerial to tv >tv RF out to DVD aerial socket
Scart as described above
I should have added that, should you wish to watch a digital channel on your TV and record a different channel at the same time, then you would have to set your recording source to the DVD's tuner, which is analogue.
