Hi Fruitsalad,

Your Hi-Fi Has To Have 5.1 Or Better Decoder Built Into It...
I Think Most Late Hi-Fi Systems Have One Built In, Nothing To Do With Red & White Leads ...?
Hope This Helps .... Sidney 1664
Am probably asking a dumb question here but the red and white sockets on your hifi, what do they say?

Most hi-fis, if they are cable of 5.1 have the speaker outputs for each individual speaker.
It sounds like you're maybe plugging your surround speaker system into the Aux in, or audio in socket on your HIfi.
This is for connecting your tv, game console or dvd to your hifi and having sound go into the hifi, not out.

If I'm wrong then I stand corrected :).
