problem with newsgroups

Im am on NTL world broadband (absolute cack) I can only get on the newsgroups every so often, sometimes not at all, My question is, can I subscribe to other servers' newsgroups and if so,how do I do this, is it free?

I can add another question, I can't get NTL broadband as our NTL cables are obsolete. I take it their prices reflect the level of service.

I'm on NTL and have never had any long term problems. Its much faster than both my friends BT Broadband connections and was easy to set up on XP (didnt do anything it just stared working).

NTL news servers are notoriously fickle - for free acess to text only newsgroups, try this lot:

Been using them since feb and I've only ever seen the servers down once, for a couple of hours.
