Vista wil not boot

I have just installed Vista Ultimate which seemed to install Ok ,but when I restart my computer at the post stage it stops with a message "NTLDR is missing".
The only way to get it to boot is to put the Vista installation disk in the CD and set the bios to boot from CD rom first.
Vista then runs OK, anybody any ideas?

I had that same problem with Xp and I did a google search for "ntldr fix", I put it on a disc and ran the fix. Im not sure if it was a bootable disc or not though. I will look for it for you and post the link here if i find it.

I saw several forums on this issue but im not sure exactly which one pertains to you. apparently you are one of a very large group of people with this problem. I suggest that you either read these forums on the microsoft website or just call microsoft.

Boot using the CD, then:

Click Start Button/All Programs/Accessories
Right-click on Command Prompt, choose Run as Administrator
If required, enter the password.

At the the prompt, type the following:
bcdedit /create {legacy} /d �Vista�
You should get an error message saying it already exists.

Type the following lines (all start with bcdedit):
bcdedit /set {legacy} device boot
You should see "Operation completed successfully"
bcdedit /set {legacy} path \ntldr
You should see "Operation completed successfully"
bcdedit /displayorder {legacy} /addlist
You should see "Operation completed successfully"
bcdedit /default {legacy}

Close the command prompt

Take the installation disc out of the drive and restart the machine.

When I type in
C:\Windows\system32>bcdedit/create{legacy}g"Vista"
Get back
An unknown command was specified
Run "bcdedit/?" For command line assistance

By the way my Cd Rom is drive "g"

What am I doing wrong?

keithg, you need to copy my instructions exactly.
You seem to have missed out all the spaces!

Just to be clear, where you have typed:
bcdedit/create{legacy}g"Vista"

You should have typed:

bcdedit /create {legacy} /d "Vista"

Also the /d is a command switch and has nothing to do with your CD drive, so do not change it to /g (and in any case you left out the "/") !

Init Marvellous? AB has stripped out all the extra space I put in to make it clear.
Look at this:

bcdedit[SPACE]/create[SPACE]{legacy}[SPACE]/d[SPACE]"Vista"

Then get "invalid command line switch: /addlist"

Sorry, when I said copy everything exactly I meant excluding my typos :-)

Addlist should read addlast

as in "add the last item that was created"

Typed everything as wrote all went OK but still the same, will not boot without CD in.
