Downloader.Trojans

Norton is telling me that I have received 3 downloader trojans which have been quarantined. How can I find out the source of these so that I can avoid more attacks?

I don't think the Norton Quarantine Reports tell you this; only the infected file location on your PC and the date & time that the file was created (which may be a clue). If you have the Auto-Protect feature enabled then Norton should inform you as soon as the file is downloaded to your PC. Also ensure you IE Security settings are configured to stop or at least warn you before downloading Active-X controls. These are a potential source of Trojans and Spyware.

chijiki, I have had the same trouble today. I'm so glad to see your question! I have followed the advice and instructions on what to do to get rid of these things to the best of my limited ability. After a complete computer scan, Norton tells me that the trojans have been quarantined. Yet, as soon as I connect up again, I get the warning that Norton has detected a virus. I feel like I'm going round in circles! The trojan I have is called Download Magicon, if I remember right. Help!

Spngebob, I've read and done all that, as far as I can (a lot of it makes no sense to me!), yet I'm still troubled! (Sorry, chijiki, for hijacking your Q). The only thing I haven't done is deleted the files, as Norton says they're safe being quarantined. My system restore is still off. I did a full virus scan last night, which said I was clear of any infection. I started up the PC again, connected and, hey presto, I still have a virus! What's going on? Should I delete the files? How do I know what's on them? Is it safe to delete them? I am a computer novice, and need it explained in baby talk!!!!
