Sorry if it's in the wrong section but my BT bills are huge and I hardly use the landline.
Anyone tried SKYPE, what is it and does it mean you don't need BT and any other provider you previously used? Ta, in advance.

i use skype.
you dont need bt.
you just need to be online.
you can call other skype users free .
landlines you call for abou 19 cents from europe.
texts to anywhere in the world are only 8 cents too.
very very cheap
id recommend it.
you top up your account buy pay pal.
txts are cheaper than msn too btw.
get it on ebay homepage i think.

my internet is accessed thru telefonica in spain.
when in the uk it was thru telewest not thru bt.
if you have skype tho u can use it on anyones pc as long as the software is installed.

i mean u can have a bt line ,not make calls and still use internet and skype

BT have a tariff called 'low user' or something, but you have to ask for it.
Your line rental reduces if you dont make many calls. I used to have it and it was quite cheap from what i recall

I use Skype, its everything legend759 has said, I think its better than msgr, and yes, you do have to go through whoever your phone line is with, but its not costing you anything while your using it.

Would skype mean I need BT internet access still as I have to use BT to be online.
My bt bill is crazy as I don't use the phone a great deal, it's the line charges I resent.
