iTunes filling up my hard drive

My 40GB hard drive on my PC is about 99% full and I'm being told to delete files. Looking at my iTunes it looks like this is taking up about 95% of the total space on my hard drive. Would buying an external hard drive and using this to store my iTunes on resolve the problem with lack of space and if I do buy an external hard drive and move my iTunes onto it, how do I do that? Is it easy to do?

Thanks.

why not just back you itunes files up to dvd and delete them?
Hard drives are becoming cheaper and larger every month. Considering yo only have a 40g i would get an extra INTERNAL drive, they are really easy to install, and allow you tons of extra space.
I'd go with Bob a job's suggestion, if you can add a drive yourself or know someone who can (it's easy really).

Otherwise, yes an external drive is exactly what you want. Just move your files across to the other drive then tell iTunes to look on that drive for your music (you change the folder in iTunes preferences->advanced).
