Configuration of monitor
3 Answers
Please can anyone help me. I have bought a secondhand Mitac MT-17AES moniture. The picture is not too bad with text but absolutely hopeless with pictures.
Is it likely that I've got my pc configuration wrong? Sadly I don't have a handbook. My platform is Windows XP (domestic)

If it's 640 X 480 and 16 colours, then that's the problem. If everything was OK with your previous monitor, then I am puzzled as to why the video settings should have changed. If this is the case, then you will probably have to reinstall your video adapter drivers
First of all, though, see if you are able to change the colours and resolution settings (32 bit true colour and 1024 X 768 are optimum settings for a 14" monitor.

Flat screen simply isn't as good as a CRT when it comes to photo clarity,
unless you pay top prices .... and even then I think it's fair to say that most graphic designers still work on CRTs
however .... you need to get and read the instructions which will advise how to adjust the mask and granularity settings to get the best out of the screen.
Mine is a samsung ... good ... but nowhere near the best .... but when adjusted its pretty good.

When using LCD screens, you should always set the resolution of your video adaptor to match the native resolution of the screen, otherwise you will get blobby pixels!
The native resolution of this monitor is 1280 x 1024, so:
Right-click a clear area of the desktop
Choose properties
Go to the settings tab and select 1280 x 1024 for the resolution
This will give the best quality display possible for this monitor, but you may find that text is too small to read comfortably. If this is the case:
Right-click a clear area of the desktop
Choose properties
Go to the settings tab
Click the Advance button
On the General tab, change the DPI setting from Normal (96 DPI) to Large size (120 DPI).
You will probably need to restart your machine
