I used to be able to watch videos on youtube with no prblems until a few days ago, now i get a message which says:
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player.

When i click on the link the new flash player appears to download successfully but the youtube still gives me the same message. I haven't changed any settings since watching videos on youtube so I don't know if java script could be turned off but how do I make sure it's turned on?

Thanks

Scroll down and make sure the java boxes are ticked.

there was one java box which was checked but said restart next to it so i restarted the computer and still no luck. I've now reset my internet explorer settings and made sure the flash player is still installed, gone back to the advanced settings but there aren't any java options in the list anymore?!!
Suggest you download the Java software from :-

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Your problem should then disappear
Question Author
I've just tried what you said and the message is still there!
I'm so confused, I've changed nothing since it worked and downloaded what it's told me to =S
Very new computer too, so that shouldn't be an issue?
help, i want to watch skins!
Mermaid, no help to you I'm afraid, but I'm in the same boat as you. I tried Ethel's suggestion, then puzzlesRus' download without any result. It's really frustrating. Hopefully someone will solve the problem for us both.

Fingers crossed!
Under TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>ADVANCED there should be an entry named JAVA (SUN). Is the box ticked ?

Question Author
Yes, it says:
Java (Sun)
<box> Use JRE 1.5.0_11 for <applet> (requires restart)

The box is ticked. I'm not sure what the last part means but I've tried restarting my computer, it makes no difference.
Then the only other thing I can suggest (although it should not be necessary) is to lower your security settings or temporarily disable your firewall to see if this has any effect
One more thought. Could it be just the Youtube site which is giving you the problem ? To test this theory, click on the following link, whic gives a demo of some Java applets. If they display correctly, then there's nothing wrong with your system.

The pictures of the lake all displayed correctly, so it's just the youtube website then? Pile o shi...!
When you say "displayed correctly" did you see the ripple effect ? Another site you can try, to confirm that Java is working, is the ADSL speedtest page at :-

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
Question Author
Yep, I saw the rippling water and that last one appeared to work also, it managed to detect my ISP anyway..
Have just noticed that your error message contains the word SCRIPTING. If you go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>SECURITY then click on CUSTOM LEVEL, you will find a couple of entries concerning Java script. Are bothe entries set to ENABLED ?
Question Author
Have just enabled anything with 'script' or 'java' in title, still no joy!
Sorry - can'y think of anything else.
Question Author
K, thanks for trying though!
Same results as you mernaid I'm afraid. Really disappointing but keeping hopeful.
G'Day

I am not certain whether this will work, but have seen it listed in various forums as a possible solution.

Go Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Flash Player. Then reboot your computer and goto www.adobe.com and install the Flash Player again. Apparantly when the newer version is installed over an older version it sometimes does not install correctly, removing the old version first may fix the problem.

Before installing make sure all other browser windows are closed - having other browser windows open sometimes also causes problems with the install - it reports that it installed correctly but, in fact, it did not.

It may be worthwhile rebooting again after the installing the new version.
Success!!! WooHoo!!!

Thank you AussieGeoff !!!!

That worked for me, I can now watch youtube again!!!!!!!

Hope it works for you mermaid.
