printer problem

why would my epson stylus photo 790 work fine but not register ink levels in the utility pages they just dont give any reading im using windows xp and downloaded driver from epson web site

You'll probably have to get a Status Monitor for your model from the Epson website

I'm not trying to be funny hiluxa, but is the printer switched on when you check the ink levels?
After many years of using a canon printer (which didn't have a on/off switch) it took me some time to get used to switching the printer on before use.
