getting rid of changes on a word document
9 Answers
I've already posted this question and didn't get an answer, so I'll try re-wording it to see if anyone can get back to me....
I have a word doc, which I sent to someone else and asked for comments. He put his comments down the side of the doc and now I cant get rid of them. I can temporariliy get rid of them when I view the doc on my own computer. But everytime I send it out as an email attachment to someone else they get the version with the comments down the side. Can anyone help please?

Google is very good you know, just search on almost anything you want and you will usually find the answer.
Thats all I did.

I'm confused!
When you send someone a Word document, it doesn't disappear from your computer. The original, unamended, document should still be there. The only exception I can think of is if you sent a document directly from within Word (rather than opening your e-mail client and appending it as an attachment) and then failed to save the original document.
I suspect that, once again, you're trying to send the document from within Word and that your PC is attaching the file which was sent back to you, rather than what you want to send. Try this:
Open the document in Word. Amend it to how you want it to look. Go to File > Save As. Save the file, in a convenient location, with a completely new filename. Close Word. Open Outlook Express (or whatever other e-mail client you use). Click 'New Mail'. Go to Insert > File attachment. Navigate to the location of your newly-saved file and double-click on it. Fill in the address details in the e-mail, together with any message, and send it.
If you follow those instructions, I can see no way in which Outlook Express could send the wrong version of the document. Actually, you should be able to achieve the same result directly from within Word, as long as you use 'Save As', to rename the file, before sending it. (My method simply adopts a 'belt and braces' approach to the problem).

Ok thanks for your help. I'll try the suggestions. I've not had time to do it so far. What I mean (buenchico) is that I had a word doc on a memory stick. I sent a copy of it t someone as an email attachment. They commented and sent back their very helpful comments on a new version of the doc called 'proposal with jb comments'. However I now cant get rid of the changes. I tried to ammend the doc and now every time I send a copy to someone else I've got this changes and comments in red down one side. One way to get rid of it is that on the top left of the toolbar you can clic a drop down menu and change from 'final showing markup' to 'original'. But it's a bit of a pain t have to keep doing that. When all I want to do is send a normal looking word doc withouth comments in red all down one side! RATTER 15 said could I send the doc so they could have a look at it. Yes I could do, but how do I do that?
I will try the suggestions you've made so thanks all of you very much for your help. I will post a reply lettting you know if I ever manage to sort it out. Cheers

thanks for suggestions - I did check the website link that veryhelpful guy suggested. That did seem to be offering exactly what I was looking for but it looked a bit complicated and like i might have to buy a programme or something (good site to know about for the future though, so thanks for that). Then I tried kempie's suggestion, 'tools' 'track changes' . However I didn't get an option to accept or reject them. So.... what I did in the end (and I think it's ok) is: I right clicked on the comments boxes which were down the side of my doc in red. Then I had an option to delete the comments box, which I did. So hopefully I now have a normal looking document which I can send out without looking like a prat because I've got other people (helpful!) comments written all over it. Thanks very much all of you!

ok...if you haven't all lost interest I've sussed out how to do this. Basically what you have to do the magic right clic on all the changes you dont want. You then get an option to accept or reject the changes. I also discovered that if you hover the mouse over the changes you get a little pop up that says something like 'change added by blah blah on date'. You can get rid of this by, as I said, the magic right clic routine. Thanks for help everyone.
