dvd editing

Hi I need to edit a home made DVD. I put it on the computer and now I want to email it to my family. But it's too big. I want to cut some bits out and just send a couple of scenes. Does any body know of any editing software I can purchase on the net to do this editing? I have never attempted this before. Surely there must be some way I can edit this file�? Unfortunately I didn't make the recording,

If you have Windows XP you probably have Windows Movie Maker.

It is quite a simple programme that allows you to edit, cut and crop your films.
