I am thinking about buying a laptop in 6 months but have already had a look around. Will I get much more for my money in 6 months time or will the same laptops for the same price still be available. I hope that makes sence TIA.

Depends what type of laptop you want and what brand

it just has to have a 17 inch screen and cost about 1000$ (im going to buy it in the USA)
If you're only buying it in 6 months, forget about it for now. You'll have to re-assess your thoughts in 5 months anyway.

Plus if you're buying in the states you'll get more performance for your money.
Be careful about buying in the US if you intend importing it to the UK.

The warranty may not be valid - if anything goes wrong it may be difficult to get it put right, or get a refund.

Wait 6 months - by then Vista will have settled down and the prices will have fallen, or the spec increased.

Whenever you buy a pc or laptop you will find it much cheaper within a week. It's the law. :)
