I have received two suspicious emails recently, from:

Location: Merseyside, United Kingdom
Registered on: www.ebay.co.uk

AND

"eBay Member:yyyyy" ,[email protected].

yyyyyy(224)
Positive feedback: 100%
Member since: 01-May-04
Location: Merseyside, United Kingdom
Registered on: www.ebay.co.uk


Both are asking same question about location , c.o.d. payment. BOTH registered 1/5/04. BOTH Merseyside.
So I passed both to ebay.spoof.

I have just noticed, that BOTH say: Member ebay. ..COM

BUT Registered on www.ebay.co.UK

am I right to be very cautious?

It's probably the same person, thinking the one message hadn't got through, so tried on another id.

Were they sent to your personal e-mail address or were they in the My Messages section of your e-bay home page? I had a dodgy e-mail sent through once and e-bay said that if it was sent to your personal e-mail address but there wasn't a copy of the same e-mail on your e-bay home page and you hadn't had any previous contact/transactions with the person it was allegedly from then you can as good as guarantee that it was a scam of some kind.

Many thanks for your input kaz. My eBay account was hi-jacked last month causing loads of headaches so now I am probably over-cautious.

Although the two e-mails just appeared in my e-mail, they were not in my-eBay, so although they would appear to be interested in a particular item this is not the case.

The thing I found puzzling is that the eBay account of the persons sending it says ...COM.... on one part but CO.UK on another. Does anyone know if this is normal?

I am convinced that this is a scam of some sort because they would not ask about location and c.o.d. payment on the sort of items I am selling, this is why I have not answered their e-mails but simply passed it to eBay spoof.

Forward the e-mails to [email protected] They will check to see if they aregenuine or not.

scammers have ways of beating the spam filters. I received a couple recently from admin@microsoft which looked genuine but gave me a link to a porn site. I had a virus some time ago which wrecked my system and I dont open anything I am not sure of. The xxxxx and yyyyy in your examples look dodgy to me.
