Small bedroom

I am stuck on how what to do about my very small bedroom.its about 10x7 and there is a built cuboard in the corner of my room which is above the stairs. it really takes up alot of space! i want to take it out but my parents say it would cost around �1000 which is alot for such a small room; as the ceiling would need to be replastered and the walls.I would then have a frame rebuilt over the slope of the stairs and put my bed on it to consume space.I know alot of houses which have this cupboard in the smallest room but I do not know what to do please any help would b appreciated....
