What software is best to playback mov. files?

My digital camera records movies in a mov. file format which apparently is to do with quicktime. However even quicktime does not play these files back very well and Windows media won't play them at all. Any other software out there that may be better? Also can I convert them to mpegs? Many thanks.

Apple developed the MOV format and also developed QuickTime.

If QuickTime does not play your MOV file very well then I doubt you will find anything to play it better.
do a search for Quicktime Alternative (ad free version)
or Media player classic. version 6.2 plays just about every file ive ever seen.
I believe Virtualdub mod can convert them, but it takes a while to work out how to use it.
It might be worth trying VLC. It isn't as 'resource-hungry' as some other players and it's widely recognised as the best free video player available:
