Using mobile phone abroad? (costs)
2 Answers
Can someone please clarify in general terms the cost of making/receiving mobile calls abroad?
I am currently in the US, and have a UK Fresh Pay-as-you-go SIM card. I know some calls made/received cost be about 80p-120p a minute... but which ones?
- If I am called by a person in the UK from their UK mobile?
- If I am called from a UK landline?
- If I am called from a US mobile?
- If I am called from a US landline?
I don't need specific prices, just any advice on what types of calls are going to hit me with high costs to *receive* the call.
Thanks!

According to the relevant website, Fresh p-a-y-g doesn't allow international calls! (It specifically states that you can't make international calls from the UK and there's no mention of roaming services for calls from overseas):

If you can make or receive international calls with your Fresh SIM, it's likely that the charges will be the same as for Fresh contract phones. If so, incoming calls from the UK (from both landlines and mobiles) will cost you 77p per minute. (Incoming texts are free and, as far as I can see, so are incoming calls from US landlines or mobiles).
All outgoing calls from your phone (irrespective of the location or type of phone you're calling) will be charged at 1.15 per minute. Outgoing texts (to any country) cost 40p:

Hey Chris,
I was wondering if this issue might come up. At some point last year Fresh SIMs changed. Now you can MMS but not roam, on my older SIM I can roam but not MMS...
If you're right re: the Fresh contract (being likely the same charges as PAYG), I am charged at 77p to receive any call from the UK... grrr! And texting (sending) charges would seem to have gone up hugely from what they used to be.
Thanks for your help.
