How can I stop CPU usage being 100%?

My laptop has recently been restored after a virus wiped it out. It was done professionally but is very slow now and I keep getting the CPU symbol showing at 100% - in the process list it shows svchost.exe (user system) - I don't know what the process is but it's completely slowing up my laptop which will not load pages properly or play media clips or radio stations using media player (in fact the whole sound setup seems to be wrong on my system. Any ideas for software to repair these issues? Many thanks

As you have paid for this repair and it is still faulty, you really should speak the company - it has been repaired satisfactorily.

svchost is an essential part of your OS, so you cannot just terminate it.

svchost can be a target for some viruses. Are you sure you are now virus free?

You will find that several instances of svchost.exe are running. They are not all essential. Some are simply a gateway to allow programs to run - such as viruses as Kerplunk has said.
It is also used by some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. One of them may be running an initial scan and using all of your CPU power.
Click on the offending instance in Task Manager and stop it from running - you will soon see whether it is an essential instance or not.
If it shuts down your computer, take it back and ask for it to be fixed. If your computer starts to run properly, have a look at what is in the startup menu. Take out anything which isn't essential.
If system restore was used, it may not have gone back far enough and the virus may still be present.

svchost.exe manages 32-bit DLLs and other services. At startup, svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to load.

In other cases, svchost.exe can be a virus, spyware, trojan or worm.

I do think it may contain a virus, that is my thinking too. How can I clear a virus that deep in my computer please?
