I have software (which came with a scanner) which should allow me to fax from my PC. However it's not working - I'm guessing because I have broadband. It appears to be trying to dial number, can't connect , then gives up. Any ideas how to get round it or of other software which can fax using broadband? (Using Win 98)

Fax needs a phone line. I have heard of software that routes your fax through their own server/computer and sends it on but charges you each time. Easiest way is to just plug the PC into the phone line as well - assuming you have a fax capable modem.
There are a few services which offer "email to fax" or "fax to email". The former would be suitable for you I guess. Just enter "email to fax" into google and it will come up with some.
www.tpc.int is a web/email to fax service that's free because each local point of presence stick an advert on the bottom third of the cover page. It's been around for donkey's years.
