Hiya, I apologise if the following questions are extemely obvious, but I'm a little lost!

I've recently purchased a laptop and I now want to get on the 'internet'.

I've never actually had my phone line installed and believe that I need to get this 'connection' before I can get on the internet, is this correct?
Also, BT have quoted me 150.... is that right? It shoulds hurendously high! I don't even want a phone, I just want the line!

Anyway, what do I do then about the whole Internet thing?

Any help would be majorly appreciated, shoes and handbags I can do.... computers....DOH! Not my thing.

Thank you.
regards...J x

You do need a phone line before you can go any further. The phone line then needs to be activated. The price quoted may therefore be correct as it includes installing the line and not just activating it. It's a crime what they charge.

Assuming you would like broadband, you would need an account set up. BT are doing some cheap packages at the moment and I find them to be very reliable. There is a monthly charge. Have a look at the link below to see the packages available.

You will need a broadband router. You may get one free with your broadband package, this is usually the case.

Your laptop must have a wireless card or a wireless adapter to make a connection.

Once you have done all of the above, let us know here and we will guide you through setting up a wireless connection with your laptop.
You do not need a phone line if you live in a VirginMedia cable area.

Thoroughly recommend it. For 20 a month I have broadband internet and digital tv. No phone line of any sort.
