Unwanted Icon

An icon for a premium rate dialler for an mp3 site appeared on my desktop after I visited that site appears on my desktop & I cant get rid of it. If I delete it, it comes back as part of start up.Looking at Poperties, Find Target sens me to Rundll32 but I don't want to risk deleting that as it may have a useful purpose.

Try using add/remove programs to uninstall it. Try running adaware from: http://www.lavasoft.de/ or spybot search and destroy from: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mir

I have tried both of these but they don't seem to give the option of destroying a named program, it just keeps coming back (Help!). This is its properties: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSA64CHK.dll,DllMostrar Matrix_HTML:YourMP3

Try deleting MSA64CHK.dll from the system32. Then deleting HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-329068152-1580818891-839522115-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run NewDownloads REG_SZ rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSA64CHK.dll,DllMostrar Matrix_HTML:NewDownloads:t from the registry. Go to start menu > run > type in msconfig > OK > this will bring a menu up, click on startup then untick the offending item. You will have to restart.

Thanks, I've got rid of the offending item, but I wondered if you could simplify the procedure for getting MSA64CHK back (I'm a bit of a novice as far as the technical side goes!)

You don't want it back! The registry editing is trying to convince your computer that it is not required (all references to it are removed)

Thanks. I went to msconfig as you suggested and then found the option of taking the computer back in time (only having switched from 98 to XP about a month ago I wasn't aware of that option). I can't see any problems with that apart from I may have lost some website favourites.
