Skype from mac to mac

Skype works fine when I contact my friends on PC's (I have a Mac). My son has a mac laptop and he has no prob skyping his friends. However, when we try to skype each other its a complete disaster - echo - slow speach etc. End up using the phone? Any ideas why we are having this problem. I've tried to get on the skype troubleshooting site but that doesn't help. Any suggestions? Please don't give me anything too technical - jus tell me which keys to press!

Unfortunately i don't know anyone else with a mac. It's so frustrating. I went on to the site you recommended - they say you should use earphones, which we did and made no difference. My son's at uni and it costs me a fortune to call him in hall and of course he had no credit on his mobile. Can't believe I can speak to Senegal and Miami with a perfect line, yet Derby is hopeless!

aha. can you try anyone else at the uni, or can your son try anyone else? Some (many?) uni networks actively discourage Skype and other similar services, because it eats into the bandwidth. If so, this could be a possible reason.
