ps2 Can a game mess up the console??

Mr Nutgone bought the new God of War at the weekend and kept getting 'disc read error' message, although he did manage to play it for a bit. Since then we've had trouble with all our other games loading - something that's never happened before. Our console isn't the newer one and we've had no probs ever with it. Is this a coincidence? I can't understand how a disc could make a difference? Any help would be HUGEly appreciated!!

get a cd lens cleaner.

We'd thought of that, thanks!, but would it have had anything to do with the new CD? That's what has us baffled! Seems like too much of a coincidence, but also seems impossible...?
i dont think the disc would cause any damage unless the disc was not placed inside the console correctly and accidentally scratched the lens.

I would get a lens cleaner and/or one of those keyboard air canisters which spray high pressure air to clean the console. Alternternatively, depending on the age of the machine, I would get it replaced. Pointless getting it repaired when you can get a new one for 70

I think we'll try that - give it a good clean and see how it goes. Kill or cure!!

Thanks!
you can also try putting your ps2 in different positions !
my old ps1 ended up only playing games when turned upside down ! i guess it has something to do with distance from disc surface to laser.
