my phone is a quad band (whatever that means), All i want to know is do i just use it as normal when in florida, ie dial area code then number, or what exactly do i do? Same with texting as well? Please help in layman terms?

It means that the phone itself is capable of working on some of the networks in the USA. However, this also depends on your mobile operator having an agreement with the operator in that country/state. You're best giving your operator a quick phone call to make sure you know of the charges etc.
