How do I add diacritics to symbols in Word? Apparently it's a two-click process in Insert Symbol but I just get the symbol and the accent separately.

What version of word are you using? (Office Xp, Office 2007, works?)

I've got Word 2002 and have downloaded the Doulos SIL font. If it's relevant I'm trying to get a tiny "v" directly underneath the letter "t" which should be possible as I've seen it done by others with the same font!
Quite a way down the list (assuming you've chosen the Doulos font) under 'Latin Extended Additional you'll find a t with and upside-down 'v', is that what you want? Yoou can also type 1E71 then press Alt with X (or define your own shortcut).

Double clicking on the 't' will insert it.

it's not i'm afraid, but thanks for your help. I need a right-way-up "v" under the T and I thought there would be a combining diacritic but it seems not. Think I may resort to the good old fashioned biro addition!
Which language is that in?
Question Author
it's IPA. it denotes slight voicing of the 't'
Think I might have it, type your T then enter 032C then press alt and x together.
To do it from the Insert Symbol box, scroll down (just before halfway) and find the 'v' under Combinig Diacritical Marks section (it is labelled 'Combining Caron Below) and has the number 032C.

Hope that's it.

that's brilliant, thanks a lot. I (annoyingly) had that at one point but assumed it was wrong because it wouldn't line up. Turns out that's unicode's fault and can't be helped. Thank you!!
You're welcome.

Finally, you'll find them all here:-
