A dying woman will decide which one to help by bequeathing them an organ aided by viewers' text votes. The Big Donor Show which goes out on Dutch TV on Friday has also been slammed by the nation's politicians.
The three "contestants" are all currently on dialysis and are awaiting a transplant

for real? oh. my. god.
I think it's disgusting.
thats really bad, surely thats illeagal, why make a circus of it, if she donated the organ, then the someone who needs it would still get it, i dont see the need for the show?
Can't she pick 2 of them? 2 kidneys after all!
The makers of the show are claiming they are doing this to "Highlight" the lack of organ donors, to me it is just sick, people going onto a show to beg for an organ, they desperately need to live a normal life, the whole world is bloody crazy.
As abhorrent as it is, perhaps this will indeed highlight the plight of those awaiting donor organs and raise national awareness in order to increase the numbers of people willing to donate a kidney etc.

The part I dislike is the freak show element which is so archetypal of such programmes. I am sure if indeed a good cause, it could have been done differently, but I fear this is more about making more money and more headlines for Endemol, rather than any public interest or moralistic purpose.
Octavius, You have summed it up perfectly, at the end of the day it is about this company making money.
The makers are saying that they're doing it to highlight the shortage of donors as if a series based on people on dialysis wouldn't do that!!
Many years ago I read a SF novel about people entering a national lottery to see who would have organ replacement, oxygen or euthanasia, just too creepy.
TV really is plumbing the depths and they'll be no going back.
I actually think it will be more effective at raising awareness than a documentary would be and it's not as if the people going on the show are being forced into it. They'll probably end up getting fixed up for organs anyway, I think it's quite a good idea.
if it gets every single person in the Uk that watched the program carrying a donar card then it is worth it, in fact, if it gets one person an organ they wouldn't have otherwise had...it is worth it! I agree with Skreech, who knows this could really pave the way to an opt out instead of an opt in on organ donation.

They only need to do this once in my opinion. Lets hope its not done again and again and again.
