can you get out of a mobile phone contract
5 Answers
I am leaving for australia next month and have until jan 08 to run on my contract. 3 are refusing to come to a mutual agreement about cancelling the contract and i will have to pay the full monthly tariff up front if i want to be released from the contract. Any ideas what i can do as I dont just want to leave and get bad credit. I have heard that that you can only offer to pay what it actually costs them to keep the contract running, which would be negligable if i wasnt using the phone at all
can anyone help?

Well a contract is a contract, sorry to say, and I don't think you would have liked it if they had said they were cutting you off mid contract because they were all going on holiday .... it works both ways. I did the same thing recently and just let it run, I think you just need to pay it and chalk it up to one of the expenses of leaving the country. Have you asked them if you can convert it to pay as you go, you probably have not had it long enough, so apart from that there is not much you can do.
not saying that this is the right way to go about things or whether it will be accepted by the mobile phone company. but a friend of mine wanted out of their contract and there was no way round it. so he phoned them and said he had just lost his job and couldnt afford the monthly payments. all he then had to do was pay any outstanding bill which they let him do in three installments if he wanted.
