Can't start windows
Hi - my husband tried to insert a new mouse as ours was not working.
Since then whenever we try and start up the computer there is a screen apologising about windows not starting
It then gives the number of seconds until windows will start (starts at 30 goes to 0) When it hits 0 the screen goes blank then the windows logo appears then the HP logo appears and then...it goes back to the same windows not starting screen. I
have tried all the options on the screen but the same thing keeps happening. Does anybody have any idea what I should do? Is it time to call in an expert?

Do you have a recovery disc with your computer?
Try going into Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly at the first screen. If successful select Safe Mode and enter as Administrator.
If that is successful, and you have access to another computer, let us know and we can try find a solution.

I agree with Mac, Neil if that's the limit of your knowledge mate keep quiet as you could cause more harm than good.
If your gonna tell folk to completely uninstall their Operating system you better be prepared to tell them how to reinstall it.
Try "last known good configuration" when in safe mode Liz.
What operating system are you running Liz, ie XP, Vista etc.

Liz - I am having the same problem. I would be interested to know if your hubby managed to get this sorted out, and how!
I have gone to the link fender supplied, but it all involves having startup disks or CD-ROMs, none of which I have because XP was already installed on my PC.
I have also tried starting XP in Safe Mode but just get a screen full of script before the PC restarts.
My kids are now getting desperate for the computer!
