Copying text from emails

I find that if I highlight text from an email and then try to copy and paste it into a Word document, it appears all stretched out with a lot of unwanted lines (like text box lines). It's difficult to do anything with it and easier to re-type it. Does anyone know why this happens please and how to deal with it?
