Need broadband but do not have landline
9 Answers
I need to get broadband installed ASAP but I do not have a landline. I have some telewest boxes in my flat, from the previous occupiers.
Do I NEED a phone line? Because I would never use it. Also, people always say a BT phone line, does it need to be BT?
I would much prefer to have just broadband and cable. Will Virgin do this if I already have the boxes? I want the cheapest package possible. Thanks for your advice :-)

Both have conditions that exclude a broadband internet service.
Which package are you referring to? You could be helping a lot of people here!

I've also just searched the BT website, for myself actually.
Less than a year ago I was renting a house, and specifically phoned BT customer services and asked for such a service. This is how I know how much it was.
I am now in the position of re-connecting a line in a new place, and am looking into this right now (I'm actually on hold to BT as I write this).
When I find out if the same service is still available, I'll report back.
Otherwise, misslideaway, I'd suggest the same as the above -- since you already have the telewest stuff, go with cable. The broadband is better than ADSL anyway.
Also, if you don't already have a BT line installed (i.e., no BT phone boxes on the walls), then you'll need to pay about 130 for connection.

Tiscali offer free line rental for a great price.
However, if you aren't already with BT then you need to get a BT line first, which involves signing a contract with BT for 12 months, which you can't get out of.
After the initial 12 months with a BT line though, you can stop the line rental with BT and move that to Tiscali too, saving you about 11/month.
