Adding external speakers to a Bush digital TV

Here's a nice easy technical question! My 26" Bush digital lcd tv has got a pair of RMA audio output sockets. As the usual sound of the standard tv is a bit boomy for my ears, I decided to add a couple of speakers with good tweeters to ncrease the treble.

I have added RMA plugs to the leads of two small, good quality, 8watt speakers but, when I plug them in, all that happens is I pick up a radio broadcast! None of the TV sound comes through them!

What's wrong and what can I do to get them to work???

These audio output sockets maybe for connection to your hifi system rather than speakers. It sounds like your speakers are acting as radio arerials. Has your TV got a menu, if so you may be able to change the sound quality?

I assume you mean RCA (phono) sockets. As alix69 says, these are almost certainly AV outputs, for connection to an amplifer. Most TVs with extention speaker sockets wil have either snap connectors (which take unterminated wires) or DIN speaker sockets (1 round, 1 rectangular pin).

Many thanks alix69 & rojash. I wonder why the darned manual didn't say what the sockets were for?!!!

I will connect the RCA outputs on the TV to the RCA auxillary inputs on my hi-fi and, hopefully, something will come out of the hi-fi speakers! If you see a flash and hear a bang and a scream, you'll know it's gone badly wrong!!! I reckon it'll work and I'll get more control over what comes out of the speakers in terms of tone and balance anyway. Thanks again!
