video player - no picture

my missus put a video on for my boy to watch, but it wouldn't play properly, the sound can be heard but no picture can be seen, anyone know the answer

Is the video connected to the TV by a scart lead? If so make sure that both scart plugs (one in the TV and the other in the back of the video player) are seated fully and squarely into the sockets. If a scart plug is not seated fully on one side, either the sound or picture can be lost. Another thing to try is a video head cleaner tape. If your video is not connected by a scart lead, the only other thing I can think of is re - tuning your video to the TV channel as per instruction manual. Good Luck
Although dragon's suggestions are much more likely, is this a PAL video? You sometimes get this effect with NTSC (the video format used in the US).

Thanks for your answers but im still having the same problem, sound but no picture. Ive checked the scart, tried a video cleaner and retuned it to another channel, but still no joy
