I believe this IS the right section as it pertains to the current strike. In 24 Series 2, a tape (The Cyprus Tape) was creating, replicated voices so well that many failed to notice any difference. Is this level of audio-technolgy available and, if so, could it jeopardise the careers of voice artists?

Here is my 2d: I don't think there is a machine that can replicate human voices that well, but there certainly are other people. I think they could get Homer impersonators (for example) that could be almost impossible to tell from the original. So, to answer your question, no there is not audio technology that can do it but yes, the careers are in jeopardy.

Cost. It's technologically simple to recreate voices - they're just very complex waveforms - and particularly from fifteen years of samples. However the time, effort and therefore cost involved makes it infeasible. It would be cheaper to pay the original artist than the sound technician.

I remember reading that Stephen Hawking was offere a more lifelike voice but wanted to keep the current one as it is "his" voice now.
