Vinyl to CD
5 Answers
What's the best way of getting my old LPs on to CD? I've got a deck which plugs into my ghetto-blaster for the odd occasions that I play my records and a laptop with a writer on it. I've heard conflicting suggestions as to whether I need pre-amplification. Also, what's the best software?

Because of the limited 'band-width' of vinyl the signal is not only very small but has a frequency bias. This is why amps always have a seperate 'phono' input which applys the bias correction. Your LP's will sound odd if you feed them straight in to your PC.
I can help you with the software. This was recommended by a DJ who uses it himself. It's called Audio Cleaning Lab 2004 Deluxe made by Fast Trak. It converts vinyl, cassettes - CD from the internet. It comes complete with adapter and hi-fi cable.
I bought it a month ago as I've loads of vinyl - I just haven't had the time to use it yet.
