Could someone tell me the best processors available at the moment and their cost? Also how difficult would it be to install it myself? What would I have to do? Thanks in advance!

Before buying any processor you have to find out what sort of processor your motherboard takes.

You cant just buy a new up to date processor and put it in a PC that is 2 or 3 years old.

The best processors are probably the Intel Core 2 Duo. but they are fairly new (year or so), and your motherboard would need to be about a year old AND capable of taking an Intel CPU (and not an AMD for example).

So first you need to find the documents that came with your PC or motherboard and see what range of processors it takes.
There is no 'best' processor.

For general purpose home/office use, then the above is probably entirely correct: the core 2 duo range is great.

However, it's not the best for a high-end server, and would be overkill for someone that just wants to check their emails and do typing etc.
i agree with "would be overkill for someone that just wants to check their emails and do typing etc"

Best as in best for what?
