media player won`t burn songs to disc

my media player will not burn to disc (or rip a cd) although i know my cd / dvd writer works fine on other progs i use it for,do any of you clever people out there have any ideas as to the problem please.also i tried to uninstall then reinstall my media player but it`s not on my add/remove progs list,so i could`nt do that either.any help much appreciated,many thanks in advance...........brian
