I have a bog-standard computer. And then the internet provider is Homecall Broadband. If I was to get a laptop, what would I have to do to have both the computer and laptop feeding off of the same internet provider. Becasue laptops (generally) have wireless internet connection, whereas my computer doesnt. I dont want to buy a new computer with a wireless internet connection, but is there some sort of package that caters for both? What would I have to do? Please help! Lol. If you havent gathered already I am completley clueless! Lol. Tia. Pink. x
You will need a router. When I bought a new laptop I got a wireless router for about 50 (may be cheaper nowadays) which included a USB dongle, this plugs into my desktop PC and makes it work wirelessly as well.
Now both machines are wifi enabled and are capable of picking up the wireless broadband signal. You need a router which connects to your modem and beams the signal out, like a tv transmitter.
An alternative is to connect the modem to the router, disconnect your pc from the modem and plug it into the router.
Your pc is now hardwired to the router and your laptop is on the same network, connected wirelessly. This is ideal if your pc is close to the modem.
I am not recommending either the router nor the store - they are simply examples of the equipment.
