Can't get on to certain websites since partner has installed some work stuff on my comp...

When I try to get on yahoo now I'm getting:

You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from a directory that does not allow programs to be executed.

From what I can gather it's like his software has disabled something on my laptop, but I don't know how to enable it again, any help gratefully received. I feel like crowning him, so I think he'd be pleased too.

If you are using Windows XP or Vista it is very easy to set up two user accounts.

That way he can have one and you can have one.

When you start Windows it gives you the chance to log on as one or the other of you.

The beauty of this is that any changes HE makes to the computer should probably not effect you and vice versa.

I know this does not solve your immediate problem, but once it IS solved then set your machine up with two user accounts.

Thanks ve, the beauty of it is he has his own and constantly uses mine. I've turned the air a bit blue so I don't think he'll be using it going forward!

This could be one of a number of things.
Has he got an antivirus installed, or has he got any rights restriction software installed?

It sounds as though he has installed some software that has increated the security on your PC (or at least the security in the browser).

I would first get him to uninstall the software he has installed.

THEN create a Windows user account for him as I mentioned in my last append.

Then get him to log on with his own Windows user account and THEN get him to re-install his software.

My guess is that the security level has been raised in your browser.

Go into the browser and select Tools, Internet Options then Security.

There is a button on mine (IE7) which says "Reset all zones to default level". Try pressing that.

If you have not got that button, have a look in the browser at the security level for the Internet and see if it is HIGH. If so drop it to Medium.

Open Internet Information Services MMC
Select the web site
right click and select properties
go to the Home Directory tab
Check the "Execute Permissions"

Well we have mcafee...what it is - his work sent him a link to their firms website, so he had to install his work stuff on my laptop - so in effect when it was all up and running, he could see his work screen. I've just asked him and he isn't sure if his work have the things you mention installed. When I googled the error message I found this page:

On the application tier computer, open a Command Prompt in the root folder of the system drive and change directory to the \inetpub\adminscripts directory (for example, C:\inetpub\adminscripts).

from my laptop - i don't know what the application tier comp is!

Got to start>run and type CMD
press enter and then in the window type without "":
"CD C:\inetpub/administrators and press enter.

On your first suggestion about running CMD, when I type in what you put it says 'sytems cannot find file path'

On second one I typed in MMD and ran it and something came up called console root and it says there are no items to show in this view...

Some version of Windows have a built in Web Server called IIS (Internet Information Services). This is in XP Pro but not in XP Home I think.

I sounds as though IIS may have been installed and started on your laptop.

Go into Windows Control Panel and select "Performance and Maintenance" then "Administrative Tools" then "Services"

In the list of services that are shown see if some are shown that begin "IIS" or similar

There is an example in this window here

If they are there use the Status column to shut them down.

Then see if you can get to Yahoo.

The article you found on the net, seems to be about dealing with websites, and thats not what you want.
Do you have cookies enabled?
Is your antivirus blocking yahoo, from running?
And are you using web based mail or have you got yahoo mail client or somthing?

Ok, i think its your firewall. Lets check.
Disable it tempory. Now visit yahoo and try sand log in.
if you are succsessfull then its your antivirus and thats easy to sort out.
if not then your problem is more complex than i thought.
