As Ethel says, a CRT is fine for now until the whole "HD ready" thing sorts itself out.
I bought a 26" CRT from Tesco a few months ago and it has been great, cost me about 200.
Most people who have bought a "HD ready" TV are not actually watching HD. Having a HD Ready TV does not automatically give you HD, you have to pay extra for it.
I would wait until the BBC and Freeview are showing HD before buying a HD Ready TV, and that will probably not be for a few years yet.
This whole "HD Ready" thing has been a con by the TV companies to encourage us to rush out and buy new TVs.
I would just buy a CRT TV and a separate freeview box which should set you back less than 250.
You will probably pay 500 for an LCD TV.
