Installing Windows Live Messenger

When i log onto windows messenger 7.5 it asks me to download the latest version which you have to do otherwise you cannot log on. But when i try to install it, halfway through the installation it just freezes and doesnt complete the installation. I'm using a P3 2.6ghz with 512mb ram. Any ideas how to either get around not having to install it or getting it to install ok??

Rather than using the program's auto update facility, I'd try downloading it directly (http://g.msn.com/8reen_us/EN_NOUS/INSTALL_MSN_ MESSENGER_DL.EXE) and install it from there.

If this doesn't work, try completely uninstalling it and then reinstalling it...
