Previously chosen links no longer highlighted

i have winows xp and use firefox as my net browser--after choosing a link from a list on a page and then returning to the original list the link i have just looked at will have changed colour, normally, on the orginal list letting me know i have already chosen that link--suddenly this has stopped happening so when i return to a list i have to try and remember what i last clicked on--not a big deal but with a really long list of links i can't always remember where i was in the list when i return from viewing a link--hope that is clear--anyone any ideas what might be wrong--thanks to anyone who can help

thanks neildownx--my system has not been changed in any way recently and has always worked as i described--it just suddenly stopped working the usual way on all sites--including sites i have been using for years--even this site--i suspect ur right about it being a problem with f/fox tho what i don't know--been using that for yrs and haven't recently changed it either--maybe try an update--thanks for ur prompt reply

hi neildownx--tried the link u posted and all the suggested solutions-the-- tools�options�content�colours tab was odd--i could change the background and text colours, underline or not links--have pages choose own colours or not but couldn't change the visited or not visited links--checked my back up comp and it is ok--uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but no change--must therefore be something within xp i guess--but has just occurred to me--something else started happening--not sure if at same time as other prob--when i resart f/fox i now always get--continue previous session? or start new session?--even after f/fox had been properly shut down--cheers and thanks again
