Facebook banners

Hi all. When in Facebook I get really annoying banners vertically down the left hand side of the screen. Is it just me, it really interferes with pictures etc. I have pop up blocker on but it makes no difference. These things usually have an x to close the banners but not these ones. Any ideas?
