lol - the manual is next to useless - give me some credit
SORRY, is there a better on-line manual?
I agree with the comments about the manual - just looked it up online and it doesn't give much info!

Camera icons are pretty standard regardless of whether they're a phone camera or normal digital camera. I'm taking complete guesses here but if there's something like a flower icon, that would be for macro - or closeup - images whereas a symbol like a landscape is for faaaar away stuff. A face icon might give better skin tones for portraits. A starry night scene would give better low-light pictures but would be more susceptable to camera shake as the shutter is open for longer...

Are those the sort of icons? Or have I guessed totally incorrectly?!!

You are spot on thanks for the info about the Macro, i had no idea what that was for, do you know about ISO i have 100,200,400 and 800 to choose from manually or auto, i know it's something to do with shutter speed but as i have never had a top grade camera or digital camera before i'm unsure what it all means
SM, ISO is from traditional film speeds. Higher ISO speeds are used for low light conditions but don't expect too much, the images might be 'grainy'. Just experiment with them, unlike traditional film, it won't cost you anything - you can always delete your 'experiments'.
