Connecting PC to TV to record VHS to Computer?

I have a VHS tape that i desperately want to get onto my PC...so i was wondering what if i connected the TV to my laptop would i then be able to play the VHS and somehow transefer it on to PC??

Any ideas?

If you have a suitable capturing software programme, then it should be doable.

Far easier to buy a cheap stand alone dvd recorder and hook it to your tv and video recorder though.

look for this month's Computer shopper ... a good selection reviewed there

the key word is "Hybrid"
a digital tuner won't work ... and analog tuner will - but is a waste of money.

alternatively .... for a one off .... there are quite a few ppl who will do it for a couple of quid (I've never used them but ....)
